Lesson info
We run monthly women's-only surf lessons in partnership with Progress Surf School.
Lessons cost £25 which includes a 2hr lesson and (optional) kit hire of boards and wetsuits. Boots and gloves are available for the colder months. Lessons in 2023 will start Sunday March 26th and run until our Santa Surf on December 9th!
Follow our social media pages (Instagram and Facebook) for updates on when the lessons are running. The surf meets are a great way to bond and meet like-minded folk, and there are always new faces for those thinking of coming alone for the first time.
You do not need to arrive in your wetsuit, if you are booked onto a lesson and borrowing a wetsuit, you will all get suited and booted together when the lesson begins.

What to expect
Due to the nature of changeable conditions, we share the pre-event info across our Instagram, WhatsApp and FB a few days before the lessons are running. This will include the meeting time and location. Lessons will always run from Llangennith Beach where possible but if we need to find some shelter from bigger swell or wind we will move it to Caswell Bay.
We usually meet half an hour before lessons start where we will have some tea and coffee available and a chance to meet and greet you. The lessons run for 2 hours or you can join for a social surf without a lesson.
If you have never been before - fear not! We always have new faces and we are an extremely friendly bunch, you'll be drawn in and be chatting in no time.
You can see some photos from our past meet ups on this page.
For newcomers!
In 2023 we'll be introducing some new tools to help welcome those who've never been before - including a waiver form for social surfers that will act as a register, an informal buddy system and name tags for certain events. We've also launched a new membership system, where we ask you to purchase a membership for £15 after you've joined for 2 events. This will give you and us insurance cover.
Following your feedback from 2022, we will have fewer spaces on the group lessons in 2023. Smaller groups in the water will reduce crowding and allow for more personalised surf coaching. While this means booking a space is competitive, remember there will be surf lessons the following month that you can book onto.
General rules
Please be aware that all activities are undertaken at your own risk. It is your responsibility to manage yourself, kit and safety in the water. If in doubt, do not paddle out.
Please note that Gower Women's Surf Society is a group for aged 18+. If you are looking to participate with your family, there are some wonderful resources and groups available for mums and under 18s. Progress Surf School have a few different kids club options, the Outdoor Partnership has also launched mums and daughters surf lessons, and there's a local 'Murfers' (mums who surf) Whatssap chat. Please drop us a message to be added.
We often have photos and videos taken at events, if you are not comfortable having your image taken, please communicate this to one of the team when you arrive so we are aware.
